May, generally, is one of the most beautiful months in the northern hemisphere; with any traces of ice and snow mostly gone. Named for Maia, the Roman goddess of Spring and growth, May is the harbinger of sprouting gardens, blooming wild flowers, the greening of trees and grasses, the building of birds' nests and our desire to spend more time outdoors. Holidays celebrated during the month include Cinco de Mayo, the Kentucky Derby, Mother's Day, Armed Forces Day, and concludes with Memorial Day. Take time to enjoy this gentler season as well as work in time for some crossword puzzles. Breakfast is the perfect time to stimulate your mental faculties, but you may prefer to defer playing until there is time to relax at day's end.
